I’m interested in understanding how things work, from the software running on a machine to the infrastructure behind the services we use. Most of my time goes into experimenting with systems, configuring technology, gaming, and working on personal projects.

    About

I like knowing what a system is actually doing. When something works, I want to know why it works, and when it doesn’t, I would rather trace the cause than reset it and hope for the best. (sometimes)

I learn mostly by doing. Documentation helps, but setting something up, breaking it and fixing it teaches me more than any guide. That is why most of what I do is practical: installing and configuring operating systems, tuning hardware, running servers, and trying things on my own machines.

I care about having control over the systems I use. I prefer tools I can inspect, configure and change over ones that hide their behavior behind an interface, and I tend to adjust the things I own until they work the way I want. I’m an independent enthusiast rather than a professional in any of these areas, and I would like this site to reflect that honestly.

    Interests

    Projects

These are personal projects and experiments. None of them is a product, and I list them as what they are.

    Blog

Notes I write now and then, with no fixed schedule.

    Gaming

I gravitate toward games that are immersive, detailed or technically interesting. These are the ones I come back to.
